Advisory Services Case Studies
Huon Valley Council
Introduction: In the early 90s the Huon Valley Council was formed from the merger of Port Cygnet, Esperance and Huon Councils. With the subsequent rationalisation of staff, many legacy records from the previous entities were put aside in shipping containers held in the grounds of the council Works Depot, to be dealt with at a later date. As alternative storage space declined and records staff came and went, knowledge of the container’s contents became diluted, and the task of managing the information grew.
Marine & Safety Tasmania
Introduction: Like many organisations, over time Marine & Safety Tasmania (MAST) was faced with an increasing challenge balancing daily operational requirements, effective management of storage and archiving, and its obligations under the Archives Act. While MAST had existing business classification schemes (BCS) for business functions and records, it recognised the need for a more comprehensive BCS to ensure increased productivity and compliance.
Introduction: The Sorell Council need to be able to access existing infrastructure records and files with regularity. Building files for example are critical to architects and builders when drawing up extension plans, as well as to prospective and new home-owners during the purchase decision making process. Because there is often so much of this hardcopy information, accessing it quickly is very difficult and impacts the council’s ability to service both internal and external stakeholders.
